350x350 image

The California State Railroad Museum exhibits many beautifully restored trains like this Overfair Railway Locomotive No. 1915. Four of these engines ran in the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915, except for No. 1915 which was unfinished.

The California State Railroad Museum is one of the most expansive museums in Old Sacramento. About half a million people visit the 100,000-square-foot, well regarded museum of its kind in North America. Rail enthusiasts can enjoy lavishly restored trains, while newcomers can learn how railroads influenced and changed American lives and the country’s economy. From April through September, the museum operates a six-mile, 40-minute ride on a steam-powered train.

The museum is located on 1119 2nd Street. For more information, call (916) 445-6645.
