KIDS DUATHLON – Kids can get into the racing game with the Kaiser Permanente Kids Duathlon where youths can compete in a 2-mile run and 5.75-mile bike ride. All entrants receive a finisher’s ribbon, t-shirt and admission to the Kaiser Youth Pavilion to get their free Togo’s lunch.
When: July 19, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. late registration, 10 a.m. start.
Location: Sacramento State University Lot 4 parking lot. Start location near the Guy West Bridge.
Cost: $10 per team and $5 per iron kid by July 16. $10 per team and $5 per iron kid mailed and postmarked by July 12. $20 per team at Old Spaghetti Factory Carbo Dinner. $10 per iron kid on July 19. More Info: (916) 381-0255 thegreatrace.org

BACH SOLOISTS –Jeffrey Thomas will read from his book about Handel’s Messiah as part of the American Bach Soloists SummerFest 2008’s artist spotlight. A question and answer session follows.

BACH SOLOISTS – The American Bach Soloists SummerFest 2008’s main event featuring the classics will feature works on Mozart, Hayden and Bach.

JULY 22 | TUESDAY

CONCERT – Northern California Latin guitar legend Ray Obiedo performs at the Sacramento Zoo during its Music in the Zoo series. The Urban Latin Jazz Projects joins Obiedo. Low-baked folding chairs, blankets and picnics are welcome.
When: July 22, 6 p.m. (Gates open 5:30 p.m.)
Location: Sacramento Zoo, 3930 West Land Park Drive, Sac.
Cost: Members pay: $9 adult and $4 kids. Non-members pay: $12 adult and $6 kids (3-12). Kids 2 and younger are free.

JULY 27 | SUNDAY

PEAR RUN – Before enjoying the annual Pear Fair, get the metabolism going at the Pear Fair 5 and 10 mile run. Although the race course is along orchards and vinyards, 98% of the course is on flat, paved roads. Admission to fair is included with race fee.
When: July 27, 8 a.m.
Location: 180 Primasing Ave., Courtland
Cost: $25 for 5 and 10 mile runner, $20 for under 18 5 mile runner.

PEAR FAIR – Courtland hosts its annual, this year being the 36th, Pear Fair where the sweet fruit will be celebrated with a food fair, live entertainment, a classic car show, parade and fun run.
When: July 27, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Location: City of Courtland, 20 miles south of Sacramento along Highway 160.
Cost: Free. Parking is $10.

POTTER NIGHT – Wizzards and witches of Sacramento can head to Fairytale Town to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday with Harry, Dumbledore, Hagrid and other Hogwarts students.
When: July 27, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Location: Fairytale Town, 3901 Land Park Drive, Sac.
Cost: $4.25 adults and kids 3-12, and kids 2 and younger are free.

JULY 28 | MONDAY

QUAD CONCERT – Texas Latin rockers Del Castillo will perform its brand of rock, blues and flamenco at a free concert at The Quad. Join in the fun with a picnic at 6:30 p.m.

JULY 30 | WEDNESDAY

CONCERT – Fairytale Town will host weekly Wednesday entertainment with its Twilight Concert Series throughout July and August. Sal Valentino with Kate Gaffney performs. Seating is first come, first served. Don’t forget to bring a blanket.
When: July 30, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Doors open 5:30 p.m.)
Location: Fairytale Town, 3901 Land Park Drive, Sac.
Cost: $10 adults and kids 12 and younger are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Capital Public Radio members get 2 for 1 tickets.
