Sacramento Area 2008 Earth Day Events

There are several Earth Day activities in the Sacramento area for families and individuals to help clean up the environment. For 2008, Earth Day falls on April 22. The following activities surround this date.

APRIL 18 | FRIDAY

CREEK WEEK – The Urban Creeks Council of Sacramento presents the 18th Annual Creek Week.
When: April 18 to 26
Location: Various locations.

MOVIE – “Garbage!” is a documentary about following the environmental impact of the McDonald family, who were followed for three months.
When: April 18
Location: Old ILWU Labor Union Hall, 600 4th St., West Sacramento

APRIL 19 | SATURDAY

RUN – It’s time for the California Earth Day Run & Walk at Discovery Park. Event ends with a river clean-up at noon.
When: April 19, 7:30 a.m. registration, 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. kids start, 9:15 a.m. run start, and 9:30 a.m. walk start.
Location: Discovery Park, Sac.
Cost: $30 adult walk/run and $17 kids. Register online.

APRIL 20 | SUNDAY

EARTH DAY – Celebrate Earth Day at Sacramento Earth Day 2008 at Southside Park featuring a mini farmer’s market, booths, displays, and crafts.
When: April 20, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Location: Southside Park, 2107 6th St., Sac.
Cost: Free

FESTIVAL – “Live Green” is the theme for the 20th Annual Earth Day Festival in Stockton. The day-long festival features informative booths and exhibits, food, crafts and hands-on activities.
When: April 20, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Victory Park, behind Haggin Museum, Stockton

APRIL 22 | TUESDAY

CLEAN UP – Post aluminum “Adopt a Trail” signs along the American River Parkway as well as cutting trees and clearing brush near the Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park Visitor Center and remove litter from lake Natoma. Volunteers are encouraged to bring hat, gloves, water, pants, boots and sunscreen.
When: April 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

FESTIVAL – Sacramento City College hosts an Earth Day Festival featuring vendors, wild life groups, and automotive makers.
