Downtown/Midtown/Old Sacramento Community Overview:
John A. Sutter, Jr. founded Sacramento shortly after finding gold at his father’s saw mill in 1848. Sacramento was instrumental in transporting gold via the railroads and waterways.
The Downtown/Old Sacramento/Midtown area is orginally conceived by William H. Warner, an engineer who worke for Sutter. He laid out a grid patter of 31 north and south numbered streets and 26 alphabetic east and west streets.
Today, this area continues to be the heartbeat of the city as the seat of government for the city and state, the go-to spot for entertainment and culture, as well as the mecca for shopping and dining.

This area of Sacramento is one of the very few locations that are still striving despite the housing slump. New luxury high rise dwellings are being raised and transforming the downtown area as a hot place to be. Midtown and other downtown living consists of Victorians, Craftsman bungalows, cottages, modern lofts and new condos.
