The Sacramento Zoo, or ‘the little zoo in the park,” open its doors on June 2, 1927 as The William Land Park Zoo. The 4.2-acre zoo started with 40 animals, including monkeys, deer and racoons.
By 1970, the Sacramento City Council changed the name to the Sacramento Zoo. By this time, more animals were acquired, a docent program was established, the reptile house was completed, and the zoo grew to 14.3 acres.
It is right across the street from Fairytale Town and a short walking distance to Funderland Park.
Guest can remain in zoo one hour after closing.

Membership to the zoo depends on family size and can range from $35 to $105. Add-on options include KidKeeper (adds an additional adult) for $20 or a guest for $20. Tere are also higher levels of membership from $250 to $9,999. business memberships are also available, from $250. Members, depending on membership level, can receive free entrance, discounts, publication subscriptions, and entrance to special events.
Free on-street parking as well as in Land Park. Parking can get scarce on the weekends, so plan accordingly.
The zoo can be rented for birthday parties, sleepover safaris, weddings and corporate events. Corporate events can accommodate from 20 to 2,000 guests, weddings up to 80 guests or birthday parties up to 40 guests.
Guests can visit with many endangered animals at the Sacramento Zoo, including the black and white ruffed lemur, Sumatran tiger, red panda, California tiger salamander, gila lizard, star tortoise, and the thick-billed parrot.
