The Sacramento River Cats are the Class AAA affiliate for the Oakland Athletics. They compete in the South Division of the Pacific Coast League’s Pacific Conference. Rival teams include the Tucson Sidewinders, Fresno Grizzlies, and the Las Vegas 51s.

History:

The franchise was founded prior to the 2000 season as the Sacramento River Cats. They were purchased from the Vancouver Canadians in October 1998. Other affiliations over the years:

  • 1891-1909: (off and on): Sacramento Senators, Pacific Coast League (AAA)
  • 1936-1960: Sacramento Solons, Pacific Coast League (AAA)
