Holiday Air Travel Tips

From , former About.com Guide

If your travel plans this holiday season takes you through Sacramento International Aiport, here are some tips to consider before your departure.

Prior to Arrival

  • Check your baggage. Check with the airline of any baggage restrictions. The Transportation Security Administration Web site has important information. You don’t want to be held up at the security checkpoint because of questionable items in your carry-on luggage.
  • Come early. Airport officials suggest arriving to the airport two hours before domestic flight departures and three hours before an international flight. Also keep in mind that there will a lot of travelers being dropped off and picked up at the airport, so allow for extra time.

At the Airport

  • Use the free parking. If you are being dropped off and need some extra time to get your luggage and other items out of your car, use the free 30-minute parking in the hourly parking areas in Terminal A parking garage and the Hourly B parking lot. If you are picking up passengers, this free parking area can be an easier and safer way to meet up with your party.
  • Parking discounts. If you are travelling during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, there are parking discounts given at the Sacramento International Airport. From Nov. 21 through Nov. 26 and from Dec. 21 through Jan. 2, there is a $1 off each full day in economy parking, $2 in daily parking, and $3 in hourly parking.

Waiting for Flight

  • Enjoy the music. Before embarking on a hectic holiday schedule, stop and enjoy the music. The Sacramento International Airport will have free musical performances in the Terminal A lobby from Nov. 21 through Dec. 22. The performers range from blue grass to jazz to celtic.
