About
The efforts of Father Dan Madigan to help the poor in the Del Paso Heights area 41 years ago was the genesis for the present day Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services.
The organizaton touts on its Web site that every dollar donated to the food bank is converted to $10 worth of goods and services to the community.
The food bank has a 25-member staff and more than 800 volunteers.
Programs
- Clothes Closet: provides free clothing to poor, needy and disadvantaged Women’s Wisdom Project: art program for women
- Child Services: program for children and parents to grow and learn together
- Community Learning Center: Oak Park CLC one on one instruction for adults in reading, writing, math, computer skills, GED prep and ESL.
- Sunday Lunch: provides more than 750 healthy and nutrition brown bag lunches to adults and children every Sunday, throughout the year
- Resource Central: small resource room for those with hardships
- Food Locker: provides groceries to more than 55,000 every year
- Mother-Baby Program: provides mentorship, parenting education and support, and childcare supplies
- Network Café: improves community resources and services to underserved
- Computer Clubhouse: aftershool program for “at-risk” youth between 8 and 18.
- Senior Bridge Builders: volunteer club of more than 150 members
- Havens Program: transitional living program for homeless and at-risk families with children
- SACA Community Learning Center: provides parenting clases, mother-baby services, ESL, GED, mentoring, and PlayCare
